Michael Jonas is a Counsel in the Private Equity & Real Estate practice of Arendt & Medernach where he specialises in the structuring and formation of alternative investment funds and their managers (AIFMs) addressing all relevant regulatory matters.
He actively advises alternative investment fund managers on private equity and real estate acquisitions, restructurings, financings and exits. Michael also advises clients on the structuring, financing and implementation of domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures, corporate reorganisations and corporate governance matters.
Michael has been a member of the New York State Bar since 2004 and of the Luxembourg Bar since 2007. He was a member of the Brussels Bar from 1998 to 2011.
Prior to joining Arendt & Medernach, he gained substantial experience with a major UK law firm in Brussels and in Luxembourg. Michael Jonas holds a Master's degree in law (Licence en droit) from the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium), as well as a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from New York University (NYU) School of Law (U.S.A.). He also holds an Advanced Professional Certificate in Law and Business from NYU Leonard N. Stern School of Business and NYU School of Law.

On 13 July 2016, the Luxembourg Parliament adopted a bill introducing a simplified form of the société à responsabilité limitée ("S.à r.l.-S") which is reserved to physical persons and intended to facilitate the commencement and development of new business activities.
