Our Insurance and Reinsurance Law Practice

The lawyers within Arendt’s insurance and reinsurance law practice advise insurance and reinsurance companies and intermediaries, including banks and financial sector professional entities, on all legal and regulatory matters affecting their businesses, both domestic and cross-border. These include:

  • Licence applications
  • Passporting rules
  • Launch of new insurance products
  • Portfolio transfers
  • Investment rules
  • Service and intermediary agreements
  • Insurance legal advice

In co-operation with our litigation practice, we also handle various types of insurance law litigation.

We consistently maintain good relations with Luxembourg’s insurance supervisor, the Commissariat aux assurances, to ensure that our clients’ matters are dealt with swiftly and efficiently.

Our insurance lawyers have considerable expertise in M&A activity in the insurance and reinsurance sectors, as well as in company liquidation. Our lawyers are experienced in major domestic and cross-border restructuring exercises affecting insurance and reinsurance groups, including acquisitions, mergers and business transfers. Our dedicated team has the capability to handle transactions of all sizes.

The insurance team possesses extensive knowledge of drafting agency and brokerage agreements as well as advising on all aspects of distribution of insurance products. We act as counsel not only to insurance undertakings but insurance intermediaries as well as banks and financial sector professional entities in relation to their role as insurance intermediaries.

Our team also provides legal assistance to our clients in preparing new products as well as drafting of all contractual documentation relating to insurance and reinsurance activities, and have developed specialist expertise in creating the contractual framework for dedicated life insurance policies.
