Cristina Zamagni
Cristina Zamagni was born in 1966 in Italy, she teaches in Venice at the school of architecture IUAV. After studying architecture, Cristina Zamagni devoted herself to photography in 1990, combining body and space in her projects. Her photographs, which were discovered by the critic Roberta Valtorta, show the relation between private and public, body and architecture. Since her meeting with Michele Bergamo in 1999 she principally works as a textile designer.
The “Soft City” series by Cristina Zamagni is a poignant visual exploration of urban life and its many facets. Through this collection, Zamagni captures intimate and ephemeral moments that unfold in the anonymity of large cities. The photographs, often taken at dawn or dusk, play with light and color contrasts to highlight the softness and vulnerability of urban spaces, in opposition to their apparent harshness.
Each image in “Soft City” tells a unique story, depicting fragments of daily life: solitary passersby, deserted streets, reflections in shop windows, and shadows slipping between buildings. Zamagni uses a palette of pastel tones and a delicate approach to create a dreamy, almost nostalgic atmosphere, inviting the viewer to contemplate the hidden beauty in ordinary details.
Underlying the series is also a reflection on loneliness and anonymity in contemporary metropolises, while celebrating the resilience and poetry that can be found in these urban environments. “Soft City” is a visual ode to the city, seen through the sensitive and humanistic lens of Cristina Zamagni, who transforms mundane scenes into true works of art.
