Matthias Schmidt is a Counsel in the Investment Management practice of Arendt & Medernach. He advises European and international clients on fund structuring and matters spanning the entire lifecycle of funds, with a specialisation in private equity structures.
- Matthias studied German law and French law at the Universität zu Köln (Germany) and the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (France). He is fully qualified under German law and holds a maîtrise en droit and an LL.M. (Köln/Paris 1).
- Matthias is a member of the Düsseldorf Bar (Rechtsanwaltskammer Düsseldorf, Germany) and is registered under List IV at the Luxembourg Bar (Barreau de Luxembourg). He is also a member of the Association of German and French Lawyers.
- Matthias started his career at a German law firm in Düsseldorf, where he specialised in M&A and corporate law, advising both German and international clients. After moving to Luxembourg, he worked in Arendt’s Private Equity & Real Estate practice for several years before joining the legal team of a US asset manager, where he helped structure UCITS and AIF products and supported all legal and regulatory matters arising for UCITS management companies and AIFMs. He was also in charge of the separate account business.
