Exhibition – Vanités

Information

10:00pm - 10:00pm

The exhibition “Valérie Belin – Vanités” is on view at Arendt & Medernach from Saturday, 27 September 2014 every Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m

From her first years at the Beaux-Arts, Valérie Belin naturally oriented towards the practice of photography, considering this particular tool as a way to establish an aesthetic relation with the world.

Beauty has been the centre of her work for 20 years. Nymphs, brides, models… In her troubling series, she constantly questions us on the search for aesthetic perfection and also on the stereotypes of society.

Discovering this singular artist also means getting hooked on the game of true and false. Place yourself in front of her photographs… the woman you see… is she alive? Would you eat these fruits in the picture? Inanimate objects come to life, and life seems to have stood still.

Each series of photographs, whether in black and white or in colour, transports us into a particular universe. But every time, Valérie Belin keeps an affinity to explore the field of possible representations of objects and characters: researching light, details, superimpositions and the textures of materials… taking us to the very edge of the border between disturbing reality and fantasy.

With the exhibition Vanités, Valérie Belin offers us the opportunity to experience her world of questioning the beauty.
