We are pleased to invite you to a seminar on : The banking, financial services and insurance sectors under competition law scrutiny which will take place on Thursday 27 September.

The European Commission investigating the syndicated loan market, heavy fines for banks involved in interest rate manipulation, suspected boycott of Fintech players (in particular re PSD 2), countless investigations and damages claims against MasterCard and Visa, decisions relating to access and treatment of financial data, unlawful exchanges of information, US studies on the reduction of competition linked to shareholdings held by private equity firms, market studies by UK authorities into lack of competition in asset management, expiry of the exemption for the insurance sector, inquiry into coinsurance practices, investigation by the UK Financial Conduct Authority and European Commission into airline insurance...

For the first time, all of the financial services sector is under scrutiny from the European Commission and national competition authorities.

This new context calls for banks, financial services operators and insurance companies to be especially careful and integrate competition law into their legal and compliance assessments. In this respect, it is useful to know what competition law prohibits and what its allows. This conference will delve into this by providing examples of investigations focused on the sector (including into actions undertaken by industry associations) and highlighting some of the key issues faced by each segment of the financial services market. The conference will also identify the main risks and consequences of competition law infringements and provide some pieces of advice as to how to reduce that risk.

The speakers will be Philippe-Emmanuel Partsch, EU Competition and Financial Law Partner and Professor of EU Banking and Financial Law at Liège University, and Thomas Evans, EU Competition and Financial Law , Senior Associate, Solicitor qualified in England and Wales.

The conference is designed for individuals working for banks, financial services operators and insurance companies as well as associated industry associations.

We look forward to seeing you at our premises on 27 September 2018.
