Robert Wagener specialises in corporate law, with special emphasis on private equity, and through his previous functions has a long standing experience in European law matters.

He has been a member of the Luxembourg Bar since 1972.

Robert Wagener did his legal traineeship at the law firm Mersch & Medernach and became avocat-avoué in 1975.

In 1976 he joined the EIB (European Investment Bank) and worked in its legal directorate. He was appointed Head of Division in 1989. In 1996 he became Chief Counsel responsible for EIB’s operations in the accession countries. In 2000 he was appointed Secretary General of the European Investment Fund (EIB Group). At the end of 2008 he retired from the EIB Group and joined Arendt & Medernach as Of Counsel. In 2010 he has been appointed Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Luxembourg.

He has chaired Luxembourg Bank Lawyers’ Association from 1989 to 1992 and has been a member of the board of LuxFlag (The Luxembourg Fund Labelling Agency) from 2006 to 2009. Since November 2009 he chairs the Board of Directors ADA (Appui au Développement Autonome, an NGO specialising in microfinance).

Recently he was also appointed Chairperson of the Social Platform of European Investment Bank Institute.

Robert Wagener studied at the Université Robert Schuman in Strasbourg (France) and Aix-en-Provence (France).
