Arendt & Medernach Joins Luxembourg Delegation to Nizhny Novgorod International Business Summit in Russia
On September 10 – 12, Arendt & Medernach was part of a Luxembourg delegation at the Nizhny Novgorod International Business Summit in Russia. The delegation also included other Luxembourg companies with a presence in Russia, including Paul Wurth and Guardian. Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Valery Shantsev and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich hosted the summit.
Arendt & Medernach was represented by Alexander Sokolov, vice head of the firm’s Moscow representative office, and Marc Sunnen, a partner in the Bank Lending and Structured Finance practice.
Alexander Sokolov spoke at a round table titled “The Prospects for Investment Cooperation with Luxembourg, A European Investment and Financial Center”, which was chaired by Mr. Pierre Ferring, Ambassador of Luxembourg to the Russian Federation.
“Luxembourg is one of the biggest investors in Russia and home to the managing companies and investment funds of a number of major Russian companies. Furthermore, major international financial groups set up investment funds in Luxembourg to invest exclusively in Russia,” Sokolov said. “Given that it’s the number one financial center in the eurozone, offering stringent but flexible financial regulation, it’s not hard to see why so many Russian firms choose to handle their investments through Luxembourg.”
